CABEI allocates US $ 4.2 million for the purchase of medical supplies against COVID-19

Tegucigalpa August 19, 2020.-  At the end of March, the Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Dante Mossi, announced the creation of the Emergency Support and Preparedness Program for COVID-19 and its economic reactivation  with a financial availability of US$1,960 million dollars.

Within the framework of this program, CABEI has allocated nearly US$4.2 million for the regional purchase and supply of medical equipment for early detection of COVID-19, in order to contribute to social development, well-being and the quality of life of the inhabitants of the region. The donations are part of a cooperation agreement between CABEI and the countries of the region and respond to the needs and priorities that each established for the COVID-19 diagnosis process.

Destination of the aid

In Guatemala, the following was donated: 260 test kits equivalent to 26,000 units for an amount of US$285,480.00; 33,000 thousand sampling kits for an amount of US$148,500.00 dollars. The total investment is for an amount of US$433,980.00 dollars.

In El Salvador, the following were delivered: 260 test kits equivalent to 26,000 units for an amount of US$285,480.00; 260 extraction kits, representing 26,000 units for an amount of US$78,000.00 and 16,000 sampling kits for an amount of US$72,000.00. The total investment is US$435,480.00 dollars.

In Honduras, the following were donated: 260 test kits equivalent to 26,000 units for an amount of US$285,480.00 and 33,000 sampling kits for a value of US$148,500.00 for a total of US$433,980.00.

In turn, Nicaragua received 260 test kits equivalent to 26,000 units for an amount of US$285,480.00 dollars and 500 extraction kits equivalent to 50,000 units for an amount of US$150,000.00 dollars. The total allocation is for an amount of US$435,480.00 dollars.

Costa Rica was delivered 260 test kits equivalent to 26,000 units for an amount of US$285,480.00; 185 extraction kits equivalent to 17,760 units valued in 95,904.00 dollars and an automated extraction equipment valued at US$54,000.00 dollars. The total investment is US$435,384.00 dollars.

In Panama, CABEI has donated 260 test kits equivalent to 26,000 units for an amount of US$285,480.00; 500 extraction kits, which represents 50,000 units valued at US$150,000.00 dollars. The total is valued at US$435,480.00 dollars.

In the Dominican Republic the donation was 260 test kits equivalent to 26,000 units for an amount of US$285,480.00; 56 extraction kits, which is equivalent to 21,504 units for an amount of US$ 107,520.00 and an automated extraction equipment.

In Belize, CABEI supported the purchase of 260 extraction kits equivalent to 26,000 units for an amount of US$78,000.00 dollars and 16,000 sampling kits for an amount of US$72,000.00 dollars. The total amount was US$150,000.00 dollars.

For Colombia, CABEI has donated 260 test kits equivalent to 26,000 units for an amount of US $ 286,000.00; 205 RNA extraction kits, representing 20,500 units for an amount of US$61,500.00; 63 DNA/RNA extraction kits, which is equivalent to 6,048 units valued at US$32,659.20 and an automated extraction kit valued at US$54,000.00. This makes a total amount of US$434,159.20 dollars.

In Argentina, CABEI donated 260 test kits equivalent to 26,000 units for an amount of US$286,000.00; 260 RNA extraction kits equivalent to 26,000 units for US$78,000.00 and 20 sampling kits valued at US$70,000.00 for a total of US$434,000.00.

With these efforts, CABEI hopes to contribute to mitigating the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis and reinforces its commitment to collaborate through donations and projects in the resolution of the pandemic and the economic reactivation of the area.
