This privacy policy describes what information is made available to CABEI and third parties when you visit BCIE.org or CABEI's official web pages on other sites, and generally describes how CABEI uses and stores personal information formally provided to CABEI by any means by users, suppliers, counterparties and clients in general, among others. Any information voluntarily disclosed to CABEI by users of the Bank's website is handled with the utmost care and security, and will not be used in ways other than those set forth in this privacy policy.

CABEI securely stores your personal data, since according to the Information Security Policy approved by the Bank’s Board of Directors, this data is considered confidential information. It is up to you to decide whether you wish to provide information. When you take certain actions on our website, such as subscribing to our newsletter or filling out a form regarding your interest in our business, you knowingly provide us with personal information, such as your name, e-mail and/or postal address, and other information. In such a case, CABEI will keep this information securely, and will not share, rent or sell it to any third party for marketing purposes.

CABEI will only contact you for purposes related to our business. You may request removal of your email address from our mailing list at any time (see below for how to do this). Through the use of information such as your email address, we can send you messages on social media platforms and identify other individuals or institutions on the Internet that would like to support CABEI's work. This may require the uploading of an encrypted list of email addresses to social media service providers such as Facebook. The information is not stored or reused by these providers and is only retained during the matching process. If you do not want your information to be used in the manner described above, please let us know by sending an email to info@bcie.org. Additionally, if you upload content to a CABEI website or to one of its official social media accounts, we will be able to obtain certain information, such as email address, date and time of upload and session, if available.

Providing personal information is your choice. When you take certain actions on our website, such as subscribing to our e-mail newsletter or completing a form to register your interest in our activities, you provide us with personal information, such as name, e-mail address, mailing address, and other information. We use this voluntarily provided personal information to interact with you and to provide you with relevant services and information about CABEI's work that may be of interest to you.

We will not release personal information without consent. We do not sell or share personal information voluntarily disclosed to us with anyone outside CABEI, unless it is for the express purpose of completing a transaction but is handled directly. If you provide personal information when you join us online or register for specific services, CABEI will only contact you for CABEI work-related purposes and you may request to be removed from our mailing list at any time.

Users who provide a CABEI web e-mail address and elect to receive e-mail communications from CABEI may receive CABEI's e-newsletter and other e-mail updates. Each email sent by CABEI includes an option to remove the address from the mailing list and you may also opt out by sending an email to info@bcie.org.

If you need to update or delete personal information provided to the CABEI, you may request it by sending an e-mail to info@bcie.org indicating in the subject "request for modification of personal information" and indicating in the content the information provided, the context in which it was provided and the actions required. According to CABEI's internal regulations, CABEI will be responding within 60 calendar days following the request.

In addition to the personal information you disclose to us for a specific purpose, CABEI also collects anonymous information about your browsing behavior when you visit our website through the use of cookies. By using the CABEI website, you agree that we may place the types of cookies listed below on your computer, cell phone or portable device.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small data files made up of letters and numbers that are placed on your computer or other mobile devices when you access CABEI's website. CABEI uses cookies to collect personal information to the extent necessary to ensure the functionality and performance of the website, as well as to target its audience and tailor the content offered to the audience both on its website and on other Bank-owned sites. We send cookies when you visit BCIE.org, respond to online surveys or polls, or request information. Acceptance of cookies used on the CABEI website does not give us access to personally identifiable information, but we may use cookies to identify the computer. Encrypted information collected from cookies is used to understand the performance of our website, improve your experience while using it, and to remind you of our work and how you can help us after you have left the CABEI website in a relevant way. However, this information is anonymous and is based on behavior rather than personally identifiable characteristics.

Disable cookies

If you do not wish to have cookies installed on your computer or mobile device, you can set your browser to notify you before you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether to accept them. You can also set your browser to disable cookies. However, if you do so, some areas of the CABEI website may not function properly.

How are cookies used on CABEI's website?

CABEI wants to be transparent with users about how cookies are used, so that you are clear about how your privacy is protected when using the CABEI website.

1. To enhance your experience on our website - cookies allow us to ensure that we provide you with content that is relevant to your interests, while minimizing content that is not relevant to you. For example, cookies can tell us if you have shown interest in learning about a specific campaign or emergency, so that we can ensure that the next time you visit the CABEI website, information about this emergency or campaign takes priority over other content. Similarly, cookies can tell us if, for example, you have filled out a CABEI form or signed a petition, so that it is not repeated the next time you visit our website. Cookies can also provide us with knowledge about other factors related to your visit that can help us improve your experience on the website, such as: what part of the world you are visiting us from, whether you entered the site because of an email or a message posted on social networks, or whether your website browser is compatible with the different technologies used on the CABEI website.

2. To understand how CABEI's website and other communication efforts are performing - cookies help us provide anonymous statistics that tell us how many users visit our website, where they come from and how they interact with it. This information is very useful for us to see which pages and content on the CABEI website are most popular so that we can modify it accordingly. The data collected through cookies can also help us understand how our other activities, such as social media content and emails, affect the use of the CABEI website.

 3. To improve the relevance of CABEI marketing campaigns and messages shown to you after you leave our website. - Cookies can help us ensure that you receive customized advertising banners from advertising services when you browse other websites, based on the content you interacted with on the CABEI website. For example, cookies can tell us if you visit a web page about an action, initiative or transaction, so that particular messages are displayed to you when you visit another website. None of CABEI's business partners who provide such services collect or use personally identifiable information.

 4. Advertising Performance - we want to monitor our advertising spending carefully to ensure that we are being as cost effective as possible. CABEI uses cookies provided by online measurement platforms such as Google Analytics to identify how many people visit our website from different websites that host our media campaigns, which campaign messages have been most effective in driving people to the CABEI website, and what actions a user takes after clicking on one of our ads. This information allows us to cost-effectively plan future campaigns so that we do not waste resources advocating for refugee protection on websites with content that does not interest our potential supporters.

5. Contacting you on social media and identifying supporters - Through cookies, we can deliver messages to you on social media platforms and identify others on the Internet who may support CABEI's work. This information will not be used by service providers in any way other than as described above.

Some of the cookies you may receive when you visit the CABEI website are not related to CABEI. For example, if you visit sections of the CABEI website that contain embedded content, such as YouTube or Twitter videos, or contain a plug-in such as a Facebook-like button, you may receive cookies delivered from these websites. As detailed above, we also use third-party cookies for specific advertising services and to track the awareness and communication performance of our website.

CABEI does not govern the setting or use of these third-party cookies, so we suggest you visit these websites for more information about their cookies and applicable privacy policies.

CABEI is not responsible for the privacy of data collected by websites that it does not own or manage, even if those websites link to CABEI's website. Modern web browsers offer the possibility to disable all cookies or only third-party cookies.

CABEI may ask its stakeholders and the community to share their photos and videos with the public on its websites. This type of material is generally defined as User Generated Content.

Users of the CABEI website acknowledge that such material is handled as non-confidential. If you send us such material, whether by e-mail, by tagging content on a social networking site or through a specifically designed site, you are granting CABEI an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide right to reproduce, modify and publish such material elsewhere on its websites and publications. You also grant CABEI the right to use the name that you submit in connection with such material. However, you still own and may continue to use your content as you wish, including allowing others to use it as well.

If you upload or share your material with a CABEI website or social media account, it may be used by any CABEI website or social media account worldwide.

When we ask our community to share content with us, we explain how we intend to use the content. Primarily, we will re-share content on our social media channels or on our websites. If it is particularly high-quality, we may use content shared with us in CABEI promotional materials. In such cases, we will attempt to contact you to discuss whether you agree to its use, and to ask if and how you would like to be credited.

When submitting content or sharing material with CABEI, you must only submit/share your own original content. If the content contains the work of others (e.g., music, images and/or video), you must have obtained the necessary rights or permissions to use that material.

Where your content clearly identifies someone else, you must ensure that the individuals concerned have consented to the content being used by the CABEI. Where your content clearly identifies children under the age of 16, you must ensure that their parent or guardian has provided consent as set out above.

CABEI also requires that you do not send or share any material or information:

i. That is intentionally false or misleading, defamatory, libelous, infringing, obscene, indecent, threatening or invasive of a person's privacy or unlawful in any way;

ii. Which is not owned by you or for which you have not obtained all necessary licenses and/or approvals as required by law;

iii. That is technically harmful (including, but not limited to, files that contain viruses, corrupted files, or any other similar software or programs that may damage the operation of another person's computer); or

iv. Impersonating another person or entity, falsely stating or misrepresenting your affiliation with any person or entity.

v. Remove any author attributions, legal notices or proprietary designations or labels on any files that are uploaded;

vi. Falsifying the origin or source of software or other material contained in a file that is uploaded;

vii. Advertising or offering to sell goods or services, or conducting or forwarding surveys, contests or chain letters, or downloading any file posted by another user of the CABEI websites that you know or reasonably should know may not be lawfully distributed in such manner.

Any inappropriate content will be rejected or removed from CABEI websites and social media accounts. If in doubt, do not share the content with CABEI. If you post or transmit to any of our websites any material prohibited under the above paragraphs or any applicable laws and regulations, and CABEI incurs any costs, expenses, liabilities or losses as a result, you agree to indemnify CABEI for all such costs, expenses, liabilities or losses.

You should be aware that CABEI has the right to disclose your identity (or any information it has about you) to a third party who alleges that any such material violates any of its rights or to any government or regulatory authority that may request CABEI to do so.

If you upload content on a social network and then tag CABEI, the submission will be subject to that website's terms of use and privacy policy. Please be aware of a website's terms and privacy policy, which may differ from CABEI's, when submitting your content. Some large User Generated Content (UGC) websites are also located in the U.S., so your personal information may be stored outside of your country, where different laws apply.
