CABEI reaffirms its commitment to accountability and openness in commemoration of the month of Transparency and Access to information

Tegucigalpa, September 01, 2022. In the framework of the commemoration of the International Day for Universal Access to Information, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) will carry out different activities during the month of September aimed at promoting and raising awareness among its staff and external stakeholders on the importance of access to information in order to contribute to transparency.

As part of these activities, an open competition will be held to encourage civil society to propose innovative ideas, solutions and actions to strengthen transparency, openness and accountability through the application of CABEI's Access to Information Policy. This activity, called “IdeatonPAI”, is aimed at the university and scientific community, professionals and referents of access to information and open data to add their experience and knowledge on the subject. The finalists will be evaluated by a jury of specialists and CABEI authorities.

The Bank will also organize a session at which the general public will be invited to attend, entitled “CABEI Open House”, with the purpose of making known the Bank's main competencies, procedures and accountability mechanisms.

CABEI Executive President Dante Mossi explained: "We are committed to transparency and accountability as essential elements to promote citizen engagement and improve the impact of our operations in the region. He added: "That is why we invite all of our external stakeholders to participate in the events organized for the month of Transparency and Access to information".

For his part, Maximiliano Alonso, CABEI's Titular Director for Argentina and Colombia and Chairman of the Access to Information Committee affirmed: "To promote access to information, we have developed a Relationship Plan within the framework of the Access to Information Policy with the objective of strengthening closer ties with citizens in general and with key stakeholders to improve internal practices, exchange knowledge and leverage CABEI's information request mechanism."

About CABEI Access to Information Policy

On March 25, 2019, during the LIX Regular Meeting of the Board of Governors, CABEI issued a Declaration on Access to information.  Derived from this mandate, on February 25, 2020, the Board of Directors approved the Access to Information Policy, which is inspired by the practices of other international financial institutions in this matter. CABEI recognizes citizens' right to access to information and is committed to transparency and accountability in the operations it finances.
