Representatives of the United Kingdom visited CABEI to learn in detail about the multilateral organization.

Tegucigalpa, October 31, 2018.- The Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Nick Rischbieth, held a working meeting with the head of the Department for Latin America and Deputy Director for the Americas of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the United Kingdom, Mr. Nigel Baker, who arrived accompanied by the British Ambassador to Honduras (non-resident) Thomas Carter. At the meeting, the attendees learned about the Bank's work and assessed options to strengthen cooperation between the parties.

Among the agenda items discussed during the meeting, Dr. Rischbieth highlighted CABEI's process of modernization and sustained growth as a result of the reforms to its constitutive agreement, which has led to the recent incorporation of Cuba as a non-regional member and to progress in the incorporation of South Korea.

He pointed out the results obtained with the implementation of the reforms through an expansion of the credit portfolio, strengthening of the financial position and credit rating, incorporation of new member countries and progress in the implementation of the regional agenda of the Central American Integration System (SICA), of which CABEI is the financial arm.

Along these lines, Dr. Rischbieth invited the United Kingdom to consider becoming a part of CABEI as a non-regional member and work jointly to promote greater investment, cooperation and trade with Central America.

For his part, the representative of the United Kingdom's Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed the interest of his country to improve its relations with the SICA countries and highlighted CABEI's role in promoting the economic and social development of those countries.
