Honduras-Spain Program contributes to community values by financing four daycare centers

An investment of 38.8 million lempiras will make possible the construction of four daycare centers in the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa.

Tegucigalpa, September 6, 2016. -  Today, Spain’s Debt Conversion Program to Honduras, which is administered by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) placed the first cornerstone of the project known as, “Construction and Equipment of Four Daycare Centers in Tegucigalpa;” the beneficiary entity is the Tegucigalpa Town Hall.

The project involves the construction, equipment and connectivity of four daycare centers in the neighborhoods of Altos Santa Rosa, Cataluña, Villanueva and Nueva Jerusalén in the Central District of Tegucigalpa.

The initiative will include the training of the personnel that will manage the operation of the daycare centers, with specialized instruction in the care and integral development of children from three months to four years old in order to support single mothers of limited means in the Tegucigalpa area. An average of 160 children per year are expected to be direct beneficiaries of the project.

The efforts carried out as a result of this program fall in the framework of the development policies of the Honduran and Spanish governments, as well as of the Social Development component of the CABEI Strategy, specifically with the sup-component of “Contributing to Human Development,” stated Pedro Emilio Banegas, the CABEI Country Manager for Honduras.

Participating in the event were Honduran and Spanish government officials, as well as representatives from CABEI, the Tegucigalpa Town Hall, the direct beneficiaries and the construction company in charge of the project.
