With an investment of 38.8 million lempiras, Honduras' Debt Swap Program with Spain supports low-income mothers in vulnerable areas.

Tegucigalpa, June 22, 2018.-  Spain's Debt Conversion Program to Honduras, managed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), today inaugurated the project "Construction and Provision of Four Municipal Child Care Centers in the Central District".

This project, carried out over a period of 12 months, consists of the construction, equipment and connectivity of four centers in the following colonies: Altos Santa Rosa, Catalonia, Villanueva and New Jerusalem, which belong to the Municipality of the Central District in Honduras.

In addition, the personnel who will run and manage the operation of these centers were trained, specializing in the comprehensive care and development of children between the ages of 3 months and 4 years in support of working single mothers of low economic resources in the Central District. An annual average of 160 children are estimated to be direct beneficiaries.

The centers are equipped with a nursery; rooms for infants I, II and III; kitchen, management; nursing; social work; play and education areas; reading room; bathrooms; all of which are equipped with their respective furniture, educational and entertainment materials and electrical appliances.

The actions implemented through the Honduras-Spain program are aligned with the development policies of the Government of Honduras and Spain, as well as with the Social Development axis of the CABEI Strategy, specifically with the sub-component "Contributing to the Development of Human Capital".
