CABEI Social Responsibility efforts build emergency houses in Nicaragua

28/10/2012

CABEI volunteers in Nicaragua help to realize the dream of many Nicaraguan families of limited economic resources to have a dignified dwelling.

Today, volunteers from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) will build six permanent houses for six families in El Paraíso, Tipitapa, Nicaragua.

Marcela Pagoaga, a CABEI officer, explained that the work will be carried out during this weekend with the participation of CABEI collaborators in Nicaragua and volunteers from the international organization TECHO.

This social responsibility initiative, which falls within the framework of the CABEI Institutional Responsibility Plan, is consistent with the Bank’s commitment to improving the quality of life of Central Americans.

The project’s beneficiaries in Nicaragua include Mrs. Marta Lilian Cruz de Amaya, who emigrated from the capital to the Canton of La Cuchilla of San Luis Talpa 11 years ago. Mrs. Cruz with her husband and youngest son founded the settlement known as the community of Comalapa # 2, which today is home to about 50 families.

In total, this year CABEI has programmed the construction of 26 houses to benefit approximately 200 people of limited economic means in the region with an estimated investment of US$50 thousand.
