CABEI President reaffirms the Bank’s commitment to the region’s development

CABEI President Dr. Nick Rischbieth stated that the Bank is making progress in order to support the efforts of governments to promote development and raise the quality of life of their citizens.

Tegucigalpa, December 21, 2016. - The Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Nick Rischbieth, attended the 48th Ordinary Meeting of the Heads of State and Government of the Central American Integration System (SICA) held in Managua, where he reiterated the Bank’s commitment to supporting the governments’ efforts aimed at promoting development and improving the quality of life of their citizens.

In his speech, President Rischbieth presented a summary of CABEI's achievements following the amendments made to its Constitutive Agreement, emphasizing that the amendments seek to streamline the Bank so it can meet the needs and respond to the priorities of the SICA countries with the aim of building an economic and social region with greater development and equality.

Important achievements and actions

The amendments made it possible to guarantee a chair in the CABEI Board of Directors for Panama and the Dominican Republic. President Rischbieth also highlighted that Belize obtained its status as a CABEI member country this year.

In addition, Dr. Rischbieth pointed out that in terms of its international financial rating, CABEI is positioned alongside England and France. On December 14, the organization received its accreditation as the first regional entity of the Green Climate Fund, which will allow access to the largest source of financial resources for programs and projects aimed at climate change mitigation and adaptation.

He also mentioned that on December 13, CABEI was accredited as an Observer to the General Assembly of the United Nations, which will enable the Bank to have a closer follow up of the Sustainable Development Goals agenda.
