CABEI promotes the region’s strengths in France

Since its creation, CABEI has disbursed more than US$21 billion to Central America, making it the main provider of resources to the region.

Tegucigalpa, June 12, 2015. - The Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Nick Rischbieth, highlighted the region’s enormous natural resource potential and its social and economic progress during his participation at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Seventh International Economic Forum on Latin America and the Caribbean held in Paris, France.

The CABEI Executive President took advantage of the opportunity to discuss the region’s strengths in areas, such as energy integration, border infrastructure, technology and natural resources. The Central American region has been able to make significant improvements with the support and financial experience of CABEI as its main development bank.

The forum brought together participants from different countries’ development agencies and companies and included a special appearance by Costa Rican President, Dr. Luis Guillermo Solis. Both Dr. Solis and Dr. Rischbieth gave opening speeches at the Innovation and Productivity session.

Likewise as part of the event, the French Department of Treasury and Business France organized a forum on development banks that are active in Central America, where CABEI had productive participation with its counterparts, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Latin American Development Bank (CAF).

During the plenary session, Dr. Rischbieth stressed CABEI’s role as the main channeler of resources to the region and its impact on the development of the Central American countries.

In the framework of both events, Dr. Rischbieth held a meeting with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius at the Orsay palace to discuss issues regarding development financing and cooperation with CABEI, among others.

Subsequently, Dr. Rischbieth participated in a meeting with representatives of multilateral banks and French President, Mr. Francois Hollande.

CABEI and a number of French institutions have maintained a broad dialogue over the years as part of their mutual interest to supporting the region’s development.
