In response to the declaration of public calamity in the departments of Chimaltenango, Escuintla and Sacatepéquez of the Republic of Guatemala.

Tegucigalpa, June 7, 2018.- As a gesture of solidarity and in order to support actions aimed at mitigating and reestablishing infrastructure and essential services resulting from the eruption of the Volcán de Fuego, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has granted a non-reimbursable financial cooperation in the amount of US $250,000.00 to the Government of Guatemala.

CABEI Executive President, Dr. Nick Rischbieth, stressed that CABEI is in solidarity with the Guatemalan government and people in the face of the tragedy that occurred last Sunday as a result of the violent eruption of the Fuego volcano, whose aftermath has brought pain, loss of life human and dozens injured in the departments of Chimaltenango, Escuintla and Sacatepéquez.

President Rischbieth added that CABEI expresses its condolences to the families of the deceased, while renewing votes for the early recovery of the affected areas, and explained that the aid is part of CABEI's 2015-2019 Institutional Strategy "Integrating Development and Competitiveness," specifically in the areas of competitiveness and social development.
