One hectare of the reforested area was cleaned with the support of volunteers and the National Parks Foundation.

Tegucigalpa, November 25, 2019.- As part of its commitment to promote environmental sustainability as a cross-cutting axis of its 2015-2019 Institutional Strategy, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) carried out a total cleaning of the area that was reforested last June at the United Nations Park Cerro El Picacho.

The cleaning activity was carried out last Saturday thanks to the collaboration of a group of volunteers, family members and representatives of the National Parks Foundation with the aim of conserving the reforested area.

The activity was programmed as part of supervision and follow-up activities and involved cleaning and irrigation work in order to reduce the ecological footprint generated by the Bank's actions. Over nine years, CABEI has reforested the Central American region, planting a total of 17,500 trees, of which 500 were planted last June.

Commitment to environmental sustainability
During the last year, the bank's headquarters building received the ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management System Certification, accrediting it as environmentally sustainable through its control of environmental impacts caused by its daily activity.

CABEI's environmental and social policy reaffirms the Bank’s strong commitment to the environment and its efforts to contribute to a more sustainable region.

This type of initiative, which is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is part of CABEI's corporate volunteerism and aims to promote the involvement of its teams in the realities of the most disadvantaged sectors of society.
