Siguatepeque, Honduras November 14, 2015. - In the context of CABEI’s commitment to the environment and corporate social responsibility, volunteers from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) participated in a reforestation day at the university forest of the University of Forest Sciences (U-ESNACIFOR) in Siguatepeque.

The tree planting was carried out by a large group of CABEI collaborators as one of the Bank’s numerous volunteer activities targeting education, health care and the environment. As part of the initiative, CABEI donated 10 thousand Eucalyptus Urograndis trees to U-ESNACIFOR, some of which were planted by the Bank’s volunteers and the rest by students at the university.

These ecological efforts will increase the forest cover to promote carbon sequestration and compensate for CO2 emissions throughout the year. In addition some of the parcels will serve as natural laboratories for the practice of renewable energy students at ESNACIFOR and for training foresters interested in biomass production for clean renewable energy, which they could replicate on a national level.

During the reforestation day, Luis Aguirre, leader of the CABEI Environmental Team, said that it filled him with hope to see how such efforts are raising awareness about the value of forests and that reforestation is a vital activity for guaranteeing the survival of forests, preserving their biodiversity and ensuring the wellbeing of future generations.
