CABEI celebrates Day of the Journalist

Tegucigalpa, June 12, 2015. - Today, members of the senior management of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) honored a group of economic journalists at the Honduran Journalist Day Celebration. CABEI Executive President Dr. Nick Rischbieth and Executive Vice President Attorney Alejandro Rodríguez shared a delicious breakfast with the attendees.

In his speech, CABEI Executive President Dr. Nick Rischbieth paid homage to journalists who use their profession as a tool for social transformation, contributing to the formation of responsible public opinion.

In addition, Dr. Rischbieth announced that, with the implementation of the new 2015-2019 Institutional Strategy "Integrating Sustainable Development and Competitiveness," CABEI will make approvals to the region amounting to US$8.50 billion and disbursements exceeding US$9.20 billion.

Dr. Rischbieth added that, “In order to maintain CABEI’s relevance and continue to support the region’s countries, the Bank is making progress by expanding its strategic objectives in different areas. After nearly 55 years of operations, CABEI must streamline its efforts to improve the development of its member countries and to that end it is working closely to support the Central American governments to meet the new challenges of the global economy.

Investment for Development

For his part, CABEI Executive Vice President Attorney Alejandro Rodríguez Zamora explained that CABEI will channel approximately US$1.87 billion to Honduras during the 2015-2019 period. The resources will be especially targeted at social development, competitiveness and regional integration. This year in Honduras, investment is estimated to be approximately US$285.5 million and US$262.4 million will be disbursed to promote sustainable competitiveness.
