CABEI grants 2014 Regional Press Award

The award aims to honor and highlight the importance of journalistic work in development and integration issues; and generate discussion on the news agenda of the media of Central America.

Managua 28 November 2014- Alvaro Navarro from TV Channel 12, with the television report "The promise of Biogas" and Roberto Fonseca of the regional magazine Estrategia y Negocios, with its report "Region in construction", were the first and second place winners of the 2014 Regional Press Award organized by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).
With this award CABEI expects to recognize and promote the research of Central American journalists that are committed to promoting the investigation and dissemination of development and integration issues of the region.

The televised journalistic work offered by Álvaro Navarro "The promise of Biogas" is an interpretive report that discusses an approach to renewable energy, actions that directly impact the economy and family development and are associated with CABEI’s strategic axis of Social Development and its relation to the fulfilment of the Millennium Goals, specifically the "eradicate the poverty extreme and hunger" goal. Similarly exposed in this documentary are activities related to the transverse axis of Environmental Sustainability.

The journalist Álvaro Navarro works in the TV program "Esta Semana" that is also aired on channel 12's broadcast.

Meanwhile, the journalistic work presented by journalist Roberto Fonseca, newspapers "Region in Construction" is an interpretive report that directly relates to the focus areas served by CABEI related mainly with sectors such as: industry, urban development and services for competitiveness. It also shows macro actions that impact throughout the Central American region, driving strategic infrastructure initiatives to support the integration of economic activity in the country and contribute to internal and extra regional trade.

It is a contest that presents the scope of infrastructure works in the region, there is a great deal of research and it offers solutions and challenges for the sector.

The winning journalist has a wide experience in the field of written journalism where he has developed his career as editor of prestigious publications in Nicaragua and at the regional level.

Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of 25 Central American journalists, electronic media: radio, television and the internet; there were 42 works of very high quality on development issues.

For the first time in this regional competition of CABEI, which already reached its fourth edition, is contemplated to grant two awards: first place with an award of US $5,500 dollars and the second with an award for US $3,000 dollars.
