The US$250 thousand in non-reimbursable financial cooperation will be used to mitigate the damage caused by heavy rains in the country.

Tegucigalpa, August 18, 2015.  The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) granted US$250,000 in non-reimbursable financial cooperation to the Costa Rican government in order to mitigate the effects of heavy flooding that was declared a national emergency last June.

The Costa Rican territory was hit by intense rains, which affected the country’s Caribbean coastal region and in particular the province of Limon and the cantons of Sarapiquí and Turrialba, where the damage affected highways, schools and households.

To attend the needs of the Costa Rican people, CABEI Executive President Dr. Nick Rischbieth explained that the donation will be given to the National Emergency Commission (CNE) to meet the population’s main needs, such as water, sanitation, health care, medication, nutrition, shelter and food.
