A boost to the modernization of university education

Spain’s Debt Conversion Program to Honduras to support the modernization of higher education with 152.6 million lempiras investment.

 

Catacamas, September 21, 2016. -  Today, Spain’s Debt Conversion Program to Honduras, which is administered by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), placed the first stone of the Project, “Technological Strengthening of Universidad Nacional de Agricultura in order to develop an Inclusive and Modern University Education (UNA FOTESIM).” Universidad de Agricultura de Honduras is the Project’s direct beneficiary.

The initiative involves the construction of a photovoltaic solar plant; the installation of biodigesters; the construction and equipment of physics, hydraulics, animal robotics and biotechnology laboratories; the renovation of the pork production center and bilingual kindergarten; the designing of a web platform; and the implementation of video conferencing and multimedia classrooms.The modernization of this University will streamline its educational, production, research and outreach processes, benefiting 4,500 people annually. Project beneficiaries include students, teachers, university employees and their children, in addition to agricultural producers and microentrepreneurs.

The actions carried out by this program are in line with the development policies of the governments of Honduras and Spain, as well as with the CABEI 2015-2019 Institutional Strategy’s Social Development axis, which aims to improve the quality of life of Central Americans.
