With the support of CABEI, the Virilla-Lindora bridge is now enabled. The work will benefit at least 40,000 vehicles that transit the Santa Ana canton each day.

San José, August 17, 2018.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) disbursed US $8.5 million to finance the construction of the Virilla bridge on the Lindora highway to provide a solution to the road congestion in the canton of Santa Ana, particularly on the highway that connects with Belen, Costa Rica.

This infrastructure is part of the Strategic Road Infrastructure Works Program developed by the National Road Council with CABEI resources, which includes other highly relevant works such as the Alfredo González Flores bridge, the bridge over the Virilla River on Route 32, the North Bypass, and the Garantías Sociales overpass, among others.

With this project, it will be possible to drive on four lanes over the Virilla River, that is, twice as many as those available until yesterday; it also includes lighting of the two bridges and pedestrian sidewalks.

The work was carried out without any changes in a period of 14 months with an adequate elaboration phase, design review and effective coordination of the project team with all the institutions (water, electricity, telecommunications, cableways) to ensure the launch without generating delays and extra costs.

The modern design of the portico bridge, with sloping piers placed on the slopes of the river canyon, reduced costs, time and environmental impacts, without invading the riverbed protection area and enabling the construction of walkways under the bridge, which will provide access to all strategic points of the bridge superstructure and public services, allowing for monitoring and maintenance.

CABEI acknowledges that providing partner countries with this type of infrastructure has an impact on improving productivity and competitiveness levels, stimulating production and domestic trade flows with the outside world.
