The new infrastructure, which benefits more than 100,000 Nicaraguans, is a strategic segment that connects the Pacific Regions with the country's Northern Caribbean Coast.

Managua, May 18th, 2022.- The 58.5 kilometers of the Muy Muy-Matiguás-Río Blanco Highway, located between the departments of Matagalpa and the North Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua, contribute to boosting the economy, tourism, agricultural production, improving transportation in the area and the well-being of its inhabitants.

The works were executed in three road segments: the first, Muy Muy-Matiguas with 22.5 kilometers, the next two between Matiguas-Río Blanco with 36.0 kilometers, in addition to the construction of the Río Blanco bypass with 2.8 kilometers, which guarantees a more fluid traffic flow. This beneficial road infrastructure was financially supported by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) for US$58.70 million.

"The impact of this new road infrastructure has been integral, because in addition to strengthening the national and regional road network, we are guaranteeing the connectivity of the municipalities and facilitating access to essential services such as health and education in the area. For this reason, we are more than satisfied to have achieved the goals proposed with this initiative," highlighted CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

In addition to the benefits described above, the project provides access to essential services such as health and education, the generation of 1,200 temporary and permanent jobs, and represents a vital link in the strategic corridor that connects the Pacific Regions with the Northern Caribbean Coast of the country.

"Currently, this important work contributes to the quality of life of more than 100,000 Nicaraguans in this area of the country, providing them with a range of opportunities for their economic, social and environmental development," said CABEI's Nicaragua Country Chief Officer Carlos De Castilla.

Ana María Palacios, a 17-year resident of Matiguás and owner of a food business, said, "This road has brought benefits to both the urban and rural areas. Many people pass through here with their dairy products and livestock, and they have access to bring many things from the city to the area.”

"Many products had to be brought to Matagalpa, the few that came in had a high price. Now, with the highway, costs have gone down because there are many people bringing in products," added Palacios.

CABEI in Nicaragua is executing a total of eight road infrastructure programs and projects, benefiting more than 2.3 million people.
