CABEI signs agreement with Nicaragua for highways improvement

Managua, February 4, 2015- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Government of Nicaragua today signed a loan agreement for US$ 149.2 million, to finance the “Improvement of Rural Roads and Highways with Nicaraguan Caribbean Connection”.

The project entails the construction of 126.65 km of road asphalt which will connect the Mulukuku and Siuna municipalities with 44.61 kilometers, El Rama, Kukra Hill and Laguna de Perlas with 52.58 kilometers and 29.46 kilometers, connecting agricultural zones in Matagalpa and Jinotega departments. The project will benefit 195,000 inhabitants and 85 percent of all cattle farms in the country that are located in this area.

This initiative is in line with the CABEI’s Institutional Strategy in particular with the strategic axis of social development, specifically in the focus area of human development and social infrastructure.
