Interchange of experiences about the design and execution of climate change adaptation projects

The Adaptation Fund (AF), CABEI and the Ministry of Energy, Natural Resources, Environment and Mines join forces to organize a workshop for the Latin American and Caribbean countries to publicize the AF project cycle in order contribute to climate change mitigation.

Tegucigalpa, June 7, 2016. - “We must streamline our capacity for developing projects that deal with the effects of climate change, which has had a severe impact on the Latin American and Caribbean countries," stated the Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Nick Rischbieth, at the inauguration of the “Workshop on the Adaptation Fund Development Process and Project Cycle.”

Dr. Rischbieth inaugurated the workshop by reiterating the Bank’s desire to continue being the main catalyst for development resources and to providing solutions to the challenges of climate change.

He added that, "As an example of the Bank’s commitment to the region, during the 2010-2014 period, it allocated US$5.11 billion in total approvals to projects that promote climate change adaptation and mitigation projects in the region, equivalent to 67% of total approvals for the period.”

Ms. Marcia Levaggi, the Director of the Adaptation Fund Secretariat, participated via internet and emphasized that,”27% of our projects are in Latin America and the Caribbean because it is a critical area with regard to the need for climate change adaptation.”

In this respect, the Mi Ambiente Chief of Staff, Mr. José Antonio Galdames, highlighted the importance of giving a human face to climate change victims and of raising consciousness about new developments in the field, including analytical tools for mitigation and adaptation that can be applicable to our reality.


The workshop brought together representatives of different institutions and government ministries from Latin America and the Caribbean, international organizations, multilateral banks, academia and personnel from the Adaptation Fund Secretariat.
