The first stage of operations of the Chorotega Regional Wholesale Market project starts; the project is financed by CABEI with an investment of US$48 million.

Guanacaste, July 24, 2019.- The Chorotega Regional Wholesale Market is a unique marketing model in the region, offering the country improved channels, access, services and opportunities for local growth. The work, which started today with the first stage of operations, is financed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).

During the opening ceremony, CABEI Country Manager for Costa Rica, Mauricio Chacón, explained that the work will enable the first 10 agro-enterprises to sell in the center, representing approximately 6,500 producers from Guanacaste and Upala.

He added that as a result of this operation, CABEI plans to contribute to the generation of jobs and promote the quality of life of inhabitants of that area. The project, which is 100 percent environmentally friendly, also involves the installation of solar panels to supply up to 35 percent of the energy required for the operation. Likewise, it will feature a water treatment plant and natural ventilation to reduce the carbon footprint. Furthermore, all the products offered are produced and sold in the same province.

CABEI promotes development opportunities
The construction of the Chorotega Regional Market will lead to the target area having the necessary infrastructure for the storage of cold and natural products, creating a reliable and secure channel for the joint marketing of products from small and medium-sized agricultural producers in the area.

CABEI reinforces its commitment to continue strengthening its role as a strategic ally of its member countries in the provision of financial solutions that contribute to the generation of employment and to improving the wellbeing and quality of life of their citizens. The Regional Wholesale Market of the Chorotega Region will boost agricultural and fisheries development, in addition to strengthening the necessary productive chains that lead to the creation of new employment.
