Dialogue on chess as an educational tool held

Children and young people participated in simultaneous chess exhibition held at CABEI.

Tegucigalpa, July 24, 2019.- In order to address a transcendental theme for social development, the “Dialogue for development: Honduras makes progress with chess in education” was organized by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), the Presidency of Honduras, the Ministry of Education and the World Chess Federation (FIDE).

Convinced that chess is a sporting activity with important benefits in the inclusive development of our societies and in the education of children and young people, CABEI Executive President,  Dr. Dante Mossi, inaugurated the event where he stressed that the Bank promotes actions that contribute to economic and social development.

He highlighted that these types of events are very important because they not only foster and preserve human values, but also provide students with the opportunity to develop their skills and aptitudes based on healthy competition.

The event featured a conference by international keynote speaker, Leontxo García, who is Director of speakers of the Kasparov Iberoamerica Foundation, Researcher of social and therapeutic chess applications, Counselor for Educational Chess of the World Chess Federation and author of the book "Chess and Science, mixed passions.” In addition, he is an expert on the subject of chess and education worldwide and a renowned Spanish journalist for the newspaper El País and Spanish television.

Other participants in the debate included Mr. Víctor Bologan, who is a Doctor of Science, Grand Chess Master, author of books on the subject, FIDE Executive Director and congressman of his native country Moldova.

In their presentation, both experts agreed that chess is a sporting activity that has multiple and important benefits in the inclusive development of our societies, and especially in the education of children and young people.
