Ciudad de Guatemala, April 1, 2019.- Guatemala's Congress approved a loan for an amount of US$120 million granted by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) to finance the, "Third Stage of the Infrastructure, Machinery and Equipment Investment Program," to be executed by USAC.

The resources will be used for the development of preinvestment, construction, expansion and remodeling of University Centers, Faculties, among other beneficiary units of the program, as well as the provision of machinery, furniture and equipment with cutting edge technology.

The new works will benefit approximately 157,968 students, of which an estimated 66% are women. In addition, the investment (construction of works and supply of equipment) will lead to the generation of temporary and fixed employment, strengthening the country's economic activity.

The program will contribute significantly to social development through the expansion and coverage of supervised professional exercise programs and teaching experiences with the community that attends USAC.

The provision of machinery and equipment will strengthen the services of dental care clinics and clinical, chemical and microbiological laboratories, as well as production of medicines and nutritional advice, among others.

CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, stated that, "The strengthening of quality higher education capable of favoring innovation and entrepreneurship is a fundamental task for the development of the region."
