CABEI, World Bank, IDB and COSEFIN seek to boost PPP schemes in the region

The three multilateral banks and COSEFIN agree on the importance of working on the promotion of PPPs and defining a work roadmap for the year 2020.

Tegucigalpa, December 6, 2019.- Representatives of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and the Executive Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Treasury or Finance of Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic (COSEFIN) participated in a meeting to define a work plan to develop strategic actions aimed at strengthening Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in the countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA).

At the meeting, the main challenges regarding fiscal risks faced by the Ministries of Finance of the SICA countries were discussed, focusing on the implementation of PPP schemes to counteract said risks and promote new national and regional investments.

For their part, the MDB representatives commented on the initiatives that are being implemented in this area in each of the SICA countries and their experiences in project management under this scheme, exchanging lessons learned from each one in order to define the areas of convergence and collaboration.

Based on the contributions of each organization and the commitment to work based on a regional approach, they agreed to establish a roadmap for the year 2020 focused on strengthening national regulations and norms and the development of regional PPP regulations.
