CABEI supports the security and conservation of the Costa Rican National Theater

CABEI's cooperation seeks to strengthen the preparation of the Integral Security and Conservation Plan for the Historic Monument denominated the Costa Rican National Theater.

Tegucigalpa, January 13, 2017.  The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) provided cooperation to finance the preparation of the technical-financial preliminary project denominated the "Integral Security and Conservation Plan for the Costa Rican National Theater.

"Since its founding 119 years ago, the Costa Rican National Theater has been one of the most emblematic buildings in the country's history, and the main architectural jewel of the San José province.

In addition, it has been declared as a Costa Rican national monument and as a meritorious institution of historical arts and architecture.However due to its  age, location and architecture, the country’s main house for performing arts has become vulnerable and requires investment to ensure its conservation.

To that end and in compliance with the request made by authorities in the matter, CABEI will make cooperation available to Costa Rica in order to support the preparation of the  of the project denominated the "Integral Security and Conservation Plan for the Costa Rican National Theater.

"CABEI Director for Costa Rica, Dr. Alberto Cortés Ramos stated that, “CABEI will use the resources to support the efforts carried out by the authorities of the Ministry of Culture and the National Theater in order to acquire the necessary short-term funds to cover the investment for such an important architectural and historical jewel.”

The Integral Security and Conservation Plan for the Costa Rican National Theater involves investment for an active and passive fire prevention system; the renovation of the electrical system for improved security; and the streamlining of its scenic box, which includes modernizing the stage, sound devices, lighting and installing an acoustic shell.
