CABEI and President Luis Guillermo Solis analyze future lines of cooperation

In 2015, CABEI expects to disburse more than US$360 million to the country through major investments in such productive sectors as international trade, housing, infrastructure, clean energy, and micro, small and medium enterprise, among others.

San José, April 16, 2015. The Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) Dr. Nick Rischbieth met with Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solís Rivera in order to discuss the Bank’s future lines of cooperation with Costa Rica.

The meeting was attended by Costa Rican Vice President and Minister of Finance, Helio Fallas Venegas; the Costa Rican Foreign Minister, Manuel González Saénz; CABEI Director for Costa Rica, Alberto Cortés Ramos; and CABEI Manager for Costa Rica, Hazel Cepeda Hodgson,

During the meeting, there was an analysis of the priorities of the national development agenda with respect to the global credit line that CABEI provides to the country; these will be integrated into the CABEI 2015-2019 Institutional Strategy "Integrating Sustainable Development and Competitiveness."

In this sense, CABEI Executive President Dr. Nick Rischbieth and President Solís discussed with the need for Costa Rican support to promote the incorporation of new non-regional members to CABEI.

Since early 2015, the CABEI Costa Rican Country Office has promoted a series of actions with public institutions that maintain operations with the Bank to improve the management and effective and timely execution of financing in order to guarantee its impact on national development and on the population’s quality of life.

The financing lines include US$540 million for the Costa Rican Electricity Institute for clean energy projects; a US$240 million road infrastructure program with the National Highway Council and the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation; a US$270 million program to renovate hospital infrastructure and equipment with the Costa Rican Social Security Fund, which includes Hospital La Anexión, Hospital Puntarenas and the tower of Hospital Calderón; and projects with the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers amounting to US$240 million for water and sanitation projects and improved  potable water accounting.

In addition, the CABEI Costa Rican Country Office plans new projects aimed at creating employment opportunities and important initiatives in the areas of clean energy, eco-housing, sustainable public transportation, climate change adaptation and productive linkages at different scales with an emphasis on financing to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), facilitating their integration into local and international markets, strengthening product quality and implementing best practices for sustainable use of natural resources (soil, water, forest and biodiversity, among other).
