Second day of cochlear implants for infants is led by the first lady, Raquel Arbaje

Santo Domingo, November 28th, 2023. In line with its Human Development and Social Inclusion strategic axes, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) joined the efforts of the Dominican Republic's Cabinet for Children and Adolescents, presided over by the First Lady, Raquel Arbaje, to grant a non-reimbursable financial cooperation of US$1 million to carry out the second day of cochlear implants for infants with hearing impairment.

The program is implemented by the Ministry of Public Health, the National Health Service (SNS), and the National Health Insurance (SENASA), and will contribute significantly to the well-being and development of Dominican children by improving their hearing, reducing school dropout rates and facilitating their development from an early age.

The commitment of the First Lady, Raquel Arbaje, to children and one of the most vulnerable populations in Dominican society has been fundamental for the successful implementation of this program, who led the request for this financial cooperation.

Hostos Rizik, Executive Director for the Dominican Republic at CABEI, said, "We are pleased to support initiatives that have a direct impact on the social development of the country and the well-being of its people, especially our new generations. Today, together, we are planting the seeds of a future full of hope and opportunities for our children.

The first day of cochlear implants for hearing-impaired children benefited 15 children with the internal implant that facilitates their hearing.
