CABEI reaffirms commitment to foster partnerships to increase competitiveness of MSMEs in the region

The development entity promotes new strategic partnerships to broaden the impacts of regional programs in favor of women entrepreneurs and MSMEs in the tourism sector.

Taipei, Republic of China (Taiwan), May 30, 2018.- Representatives of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI); the Secretariat of Central American Economic Integration (SIECA); the Council of Ministers of Women of Central America and the Dominican Republic (COMMCA); The Regional Center for the Promotion of MSMEs (CENPROMYPE), and the Secretariat for Central American Tourism Integration (SITCA) participated in a work tour to the International Cooperation Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) to jointly present regional initiatives in support of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The work meetings were inaugurated on May 22 by the Secretary General of TaiwanICDF, Mr. Timothy T.Y.Hsiang, who acknowledged the visit and its purpose of presenting proposals to finance regional programs.

In the following two days of work, CABEI and the SICA offices presented in detail the financing proposals of the Regional Program for Business Financing for Women (FEM) and the Regional Program of Competitiveness and Sustainability for Tourism MSMEs (PROMITUR) to TaiwanICDF specialists and exchanged consultations to explore that entity's financing options in regards to the presented programs.

On the last day, TaiwanICDF shared its country's successful experiences in the implementation of specialized financial products for women entrepreneurs and for tourism MSMEs that develop projects linked to promote the cultural heritage of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The FEM is a financial product of CABEI designed to promote the economic autonomy of women, improving their capacity to contribute as agents of change in the economic and social development of the region. The financing granted under the Program is channeled through intermediary financial institutions that meet the eligibility requirements established by the Bank. The
FEM was formulated by COMMCA, SIECA, CENPROMYPE and CABEI as a regional initiative that contributes to axis 1 of the Economic Autonomy of Women of SICA's Regional Policy for Gender Equality and Equity (PRIEG/SICA).

PROMITUR is a financial product of CABEI that was designed in conjunction with the national tourism authorities of the SICA countries and the Secretariat of Central American Tourism Integration (SITCA), according to one of the guidelines defined in the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Tourism Development of Central America (PEDTS). PROMITUR is aimed at meeting the credit needs of the tourism sector with adequate conditions, providing specialized technical assistance to tourist MSMEs that allows the development of business plans for international promotion, obtaining certifications and facilitating access to national and international regional markets.
