The initiative is aimed at ensuring that the CABEI project executing units promote internal procedures to prevent, detect and correct the risks of prohibited practices (fraud/corruption) in their operations.

San Salvador, November 21, 2019.- Today, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) inaugurated the “Integrity Risk Management Workshop.” The event is expected to be attended by 50 people from executing units managing CABEI-financed projects in the countries of the region.

In addition, the inauguration ceremony will be attended by Presidential Commissioner of Operations and Cabinets of the Government of El Salvador and CABEI Director for El Salvador, Carolina Recinos.

The workshop, which was coordinated by the CABEI Integrity and Compliance Office, aims to strengthen the capacities of the executing unit members in order to ensure greater work effectiveness and efficiency. Likewise, the event will teach participants about CABEI's current policies and regulations involving anti-fraud, anti-corruption, integrity and procurement issues, demonstrating the consistency of the Bank's actions with these policies.

The subjects to be addressed will be aimed at providing public officials with such techniques as identification, self-assessment and training on integrity gap detection, as well as correction and generation of action plans. The event's ultimate goal is to streamline the executing units' management, supervision, awarding and control of CABEI-financed projects, as well as to guarantee the fulfillment of their objectives.

An important Integrity and Procurement Training Workshop
Pursuant to the annual training and dissemination plan, CABEI has contemplated the realization of the Integrity Risk Management Workshop, which aims to provide the executing units of CABEI-financed projects with the necessary capacities for them to efficiently and effectively choose and execute all the processes involving procurement, tenders, supervision and awarding among other related processes.

On 2014, CABEI introduced integrity issues related to prohibited practices (fraud, corruption, coercion, collusion, obstruction) into its internal regulations, subsequently creating its anti-fraud policy. Furthermore, the Bank's Board of Directors has stated it will have zero tolerance towards fraud and corruption. To that end, the Bank has perfected its procurement policy for goods and services to ensure that bidding processes be conducted transparently, cleanly and competitively in order to fulfill the aforementioned mandate regarding zero tolerance.

With these actions, CABEI reaffirms its commitment to combat prohibited practices and act with integrity and transparency at the service of the region's social and economic development.
