CABEI promotes food and nutritional security diagnosis in El Salvador

04/06/2015

The diagnosis will study the current situation in the sector and analyze the strengths and opportunities in rural areas and in the Salvadoran agricultural sector, culminating with an identification of priority actions to carry out.

San Salvador, June 5, 2015. - The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) signed an agreement amounting to US$25,000.00. The agreement will enable CABEI to partially finance the preparation of a Specialized Notebook on Salvadoran Food and Nutritional Security, which is part of the Project, "Public Policy for Sustainable Human Development in El Salvador."

The notebook’s preparation includes a diagnostic survey phase, which will analyze the strengths and opportunities in rural areas and in the agricultural sector in El Salvador. This will be accomplished by identifying key actors and preparing planning workshops and focus groups in order to collect inputs. The results of the diagnosis will be systematized, published and disseminated.

The financial cooperation is in line with CABEI’s 2015-2019 Institutional Strategy’s Strategic Axis of “Social Development,” specifically with the Focus Area “Rural Development and the Environment” and especially with the goals related to poverty eradication, promoting gender equality and guaranteeing environmental sustainability.

The total project cost is estimated at US$812,143.00 with support from the UNDP, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the government of El Salvador and other donors.
