CABEI to Finance Expansion of Nicaraguan National Police

The Government of the Republic of Nicaragua and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) signed today a loan for US$ 16,334,985.00 to finance the project enlargement of the “Proyecto Ampliación de la Cobertura Rural de la Policía Nacional Para Fortalecer la Seguridad Ciudadana”, as part of the priorities of the government of Nicaragua and whose main objective is to raise levels of security at the national level.

The project designated by the Government of Nicaragua has the National Police (Policia Nacional) as the executive unit and consists of the modernization of the communication and information systems of the police institution, the improvement of the operational capacities and mobilization of National Police, and the improvement of the infrastructure of the police stations and specialties, with the goal of strengthening public security.

The project will have impact in 98 municipalities located in 15 departments of the country and the two autonomous regions. It is estimated that the population benefited directly will be 1,053,331 inhabitants, of whom 48 per cent are women.

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), called for the signing of the loan with the Republic of Nicaragua to expand the Coverage of the National Rural to strengthen public security.

Participated in the event CABEI Director for Nicaragua, Dr. Silvio E. Conrad; the Minister of Finance, Ivan Degree and First Commissioner Aminta Granera Elena Sacasa, Director General of National Police.

In this period the distribution of funding by focus area was as follows: the axis of competitiveness was allocated 46.0% of the total amount approved, the axis of 33.0% social development and regional integration about 21% of the funds.
