20/01/2012

The project will benefit more than 254,630 inhabitants of the San José metropolitan area and other cities.

With the approval of an initial amount of US$1.2 million, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) will finance the first stage of the pre-investment studies for the program, “Water Supply for the San José Metropolitan Area, Urban Aqueducts and Sewer Systems of Costa Rica.”

The project will allow the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewer Systems to hire consulting firms to carry out and prepare the feasibility studies, technical studies, plans, final designs and tender documents needed to apply for CABEI funding to improve the country’s water supply and aqueduct systems.

This program will directly benefit 254,630 inhabitants of the Greater Metropolitan Area and increase the potable water supply by 880.27 liters per second.
The loan will finance pre-investment studies for the following projects: Water Supply for the west side of the San José Metropolitan Area; Improvement of the Pérez Zeledón Aqueduct; Improvement of the Pasito de Alajuela Aqueduct; Water Supply Line for Ojo de Agua; and Improvement of the San Pablo Turrubares Aqueduct.

This initiative is in line with CABEI's 2010-2014 Institutional Strategy, in particular with the strategic axis of social development and specifically with the focus area of human development and social infrastructure, whose strategic objective is to strengthen the coverage of services and basic needs in the countries.

In this way, CABEI works to improve the quality of life of Central American inhabitants.
