In alliance with the organization TECHO para mi pais (Roof for my country) and with the support of CABEI personnel, their families and friends, the Bank invested US$50 thousand for the construction of these houses for citizens of limited economic means.

As part of its social responsibility efforts, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has participated in the construction of 58 homes for low income people. In this third year of participating in the project, the goal is to build a total of 26 emergency homes.

In alliance with the organization TECHO para mi pais (Roof for my country) and with the support of CABEI personnel, their families and friends, the Bank invested US$50 thousand for the construction of these houses for citizens of limited economic means. In Honduras, the project will benefit five families from Comayagüela.

The emergency housing construction was carried out in the community of Santa Clara, where 230 families live in 120 houses, which lack access to potable water or a public sewage system. Most heads of household are homemakers or masons, and their current homes, which are usually borrowed, suffer from leaks and the entry of wind through holes in the walls and ceilings.

However this community has a history of promoting joint projects to improve their habitat, such as electricity installation and the land legalization process. In addition to the housing shortage, one the main needs of the community is adequate access roads, which will lead to economic growth and greater access to basic services.

CABEI collaborators worked in Santa Clara, Municipality of Comayagüela on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 of October together with TECHO para mi pais participants and families from the target community to build these houses that are so necessary for low income Hondurans.

In this regard, CABEI Executive President Dr. Nick Rischbieth emphasized that the Bank’s strategy, "Competitiveness with Social Integration and Development," establishes a priority of working to improve the quality of life of Central Americans through the sustainable development of the territory and its resources and balanced economic and social development.

This social responsibility initiative carried out by CABEI is also part of its Institutional Responsibility Plan, which just received the SRE (Socially Responsible Enterprise) Seal, a recognition provided by the Honduran Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility (FUNDAHRSE1).

At the ceremony, the Executive Vice President Alejandro Rodríguez Zamora, who received the ESR Seal in on behalf of CABEI, said that, "Since 2009, when CABEI adopted its Institutional Responsibility Plan, we have focused our efforts on strengthening the Bank’s commitment to the environment and the community with which we interact."
