CABEI and Open Knowledge Foundation join forces in the online seminar: "Open Data as Infrastructure for Economic Development"

Tegucigalpa, March 5, 2024.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), in its ongoing efforts to strengthen the culture of accountability among its collaborators and the general public, held today the seminar "Open Data as Infrastructure for Economic Development," with the valuable support of the Open Knowledge Foundation.

During the event, CABEI Executive President Gisela Sánchez reiterated CABEI's commitment to the principles of ethics, transparency and excellence. In addition, she announced for the first time the launch of the NEXUS Portal, a platform aimed at strengthening collaboration with external stakeholders, thus expanding opportunities to work together on key issues such as transparency, accountability and open knowledge within the framework of the implementation of the Bank's Access to Information Policy.

Sánchez highlighted the importance of open data to empower people in making decisions that affect their lives and promote transparency in the use of public funds. On the business side, he highlighted the potential of open data to drive innovation and economic growth by facilitating access to crucial information for the development of new products and services.

The event counted with the outstanding participation of Renata Avila, director of the Open Knowledge Foundation; Professor Jess Reía from the University of Virginia; Ricardo Miron, technology director for the Digital Public Goods Alliance; and Arturo Muente, specialist in state modernization at the Inter-American Development Bank. The event was moderated by Jorge Mariné, CABEI Director for Spain, and was attended by more than 400 participants from different countries.

This activity is part of the commemoration of Open Data Day and represents an effort to understand how Open Data can drive innovation, promote transparency and encourage citizen participation in the digital age. The video of the event can be found at the following link.
