31/08/2023

Tegucigalpa, August 31, 2023 - The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) will organize a series of activities in September to commemorate International Day for Universal Access to Information. The objective of these initiatives is to raise awareness among the Bank's staff and external stakeholders about the importance of access to information in fostering transparency.

The "Transparency and Access to Information Month" will kick off with the webinar "Towards Measuring the Impact of Access to Information and Its Benefits" on September 5 at 11:00 a.m. (Honduran time). The activity is organized in collaboration with UNESCO, ECLAC, and the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information, and Data Protection (INAI) of Mexico. It will feature presentations from experts and specialists in the field. To participate, interested parties must register here.

On September 7 at 9:00 a.m. (Honduran time), the second edition of "Open House" will be held. The aim of this initiative is to share information about the Bank's competencies, procedures, and accountability mechanisms. Prior registration here is necessary to participate.

The "Transparency and Access to Information Month" will conclude on September 21 with an "Open Lecture," co-organized between CABEI and universities in the region. The goal is to strengthen dialogue and collaboration with the academic community. The event will take place at CABEI's headquarters in Tegucigalpa and will include participation from students and faculty of local universities. It will also be live-streamed to other educational institutions in the Bank's partner countries.

Belinda Carias Martinez, Vice-President of the Communications and Access to Information Committee and Honduras Director for CABEI, stated, "These activities allow us to promote our Access to Information Policy as a key tool to build society's trust in our institution." She added, "We invite all citizens to actively participate in strengthening our transparency and accountability mechanisms for the benefit of the entire region."

About CABEI's Access to Information Policy

On March 25, 2019, during the LIX Ordinary Meeting of the Board of Governors, CABEI issued a Declaration on Access to Information. Stemming from this mandate, on February 25, 2020, the Board approved the Access to Information Policy. This policy is inspired by the practices of other international financial institutions in this regard. CABEI recognizes citizens' right to access information and is committed to transparency and accountability in the operations it finances.
