CABEI deepens the role of financial agents in the face of economic challenges in the Americas during a forum
Tegucigalpa, September 18, 2020.- In the framework of the forum "Pandemic and Economic Challenges in the Americas" of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), the main challenges and situations in context to boost the economies in the Americas were analyzed.
The event was opened by CABEI's Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, who provided an overview and current context of the international situation that countries and their economies, especially those of the Central American region, are experiencing and facing. He also highlighted the Bank's reaction to the crises that the pandemic has created, from the health approach to the economic approach on different scales and sectors. He also pointed out that it is important to promote initiatives that encourage technological change, innovation, and creativity as essential sources of development by creating higher value-added activities.
Dr. Mossi reaffirms the role of CABEI in accompanying and promoting regional competitiveness, understood as the broad set of economic, social, and institutional elements that foster balanced and inclusive development.
The forum was presented as a proposal of the board of directors, some of the questions addressed to the speakers were What should be the expected roles of the private sector, the financial sector, the public sector, civil society, international cooperation; the event provided answers with different approaches marked in the new normality.
The meeting was attended by an outstanding panel of international experts including: the Chief Economist of the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico, Dr. Luis Foncerrada Pascal; the Director of the Economic Research Area of CIEN and General Director of the School of Government, Guatemala, M.A. Hugo Maul Rivas; Professor of IHEAL- Sorbonne Nouvelle University and Vice President of the Institute of the Americas, France, Dr. Carlos Quenan. The moderator was CABEI’s Director for Argentina and President of the Strategy, Programming and Evaluation Committee, Dr. Maximiliano Alonso.
With the organization of this forum, the multilateral shows its commitment to promote information spaces with a trend towards development, transparency, and public service in order to support and encourage the public, private, and financial sectors and civil society in the region.
