The purpose of this cooperation is to support government authorities in implementing the actions required to provide assistance to the affected population.

Santo Domingo, September 4th, 2023 - In order to address the impacts caused by tropical storm Franklin and the explosion that occurred in the province of San Cristóbal, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) allocated resources of US$1 million.

The funds are earmarked for rescue and humanitarian aid, as well as for the purchase of medical equipment, ambulances, medicines, food, clean water, housing and building repairs, among others.

The Dominican Federation of Municipalities (FEDOMU) has been designated as the Executing Agency to carry out the relief efforts to mitigate the effects caused by Tropical Storm Franklin. This entity will be in charge of developing the necessary actions in the provinces of Nagua and Maria Trinidad Sanchez and their respective municipalities.

Likewise, in order to face the crisis derived from the explosion of a building registered last August 14 in the province of San Cristobal, which has resulted in the death of 27 people and more than 50 injured, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) has been designated as the Executing Agency in charge.

"CABEI approved this assistance as a gesture of solidarity in order to support the Dominican government's initiatives aimed at mitigating damages and restoring infrastructure and essential services for the benefit of the Dominican people," said CABEI Director for the Dominican Republic, Hostos Rizik.

The bank provides support to its member countries through emergency aid in situations such as natural disasters, fires, earthquakes, hurricanes, pandemics and other similar crises, in order to help them face such challenges.
