CABEI grants economic support to Honduras to address damages caused by tropical storm Pilar

A donation of US$1 million will help authorities to assist more than 36,000 people affected and mitigate damages.

Tegucigalpa, November 23 th, 2023 - Contributing to the efforts of the Republic of Honduras to meet the most urgent needs of the population affected by the constant rains caused by tropical storm Pilar in recent weeks, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved US$1 million in Emergency and Natural Disaster Assistance.  

The non-reimbursable cooperation will support the authorities in the purchase of food, clean water and primary goods, medicines and equipment for care medical, shelter requirements, inputs for planting recovery, among others. This will contribute to mitigate the effects caused by the constant rains, such as soil saturation, landslides, communities cut off from communication, destroyed homes, lost crops, damage to infrastructure and thousands of people sheltered in shelters.

The donation will be executed by the Government of the Republic of Honduras and is a demonstration of CABEI's solidarity with its founding member country, reiterating the institution's commitment to provide timely and effective support to its member countries.
