CABEI approves emergency grant to support more than 150 families affected by mudslides in Tegucigalpa
Emergency cooperation in the amount of US$500,000 will help care for people displaced by the mudslides in the Central District Municipality of Honduras, as well as continue humanitarian efforts to preserve lives.
Merida, Yucatan September 21th. 2022. - In support of humanitarian efforts to preserve the safety of families affected by a series of mudslides caused by heavy rains in Tegucigalpa, M.D.C., the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved an emergency grant of US$500,000 to the Republic of Honduras.
This donation will make it possible to attend to the most urgent needs of the displaced populations in the disaster and high-risk areas of the municipality, including Colonias Guillen, Colina Nueva, Santa Rosa and surrounding areas, such as food and clean water, medicines and medical attention, mattresses and materials for shelters, materials and labor for the construction or repair of houses and affected infrastructure, among others that are identified by the authorities.
CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, said, "We are moved by the difficult situation affecting these families, who have worked hard to build the homes they have now lost. This rapid approval and disbursement donation is a sign of our solidarity and reaffirms the Bank's commitment to directly support its member countries in dealing with crises in a timely manner.”
CABEI grants humanitarian aid in the form of emergency and natural disaster relief in support of and in solidarity with its member countries to effectively address situations such as floods, fires, earthquakes, pandemics, among others.
