The investment of US $1.39 million is provided by CABEI's Technical Cooperation Fund and the French Treasury Facility FASEP managed by CABEI.

Tegucigalpa, September 4, 2018.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration signed a technical cooperation agreement today for US $1.39 million to finance pre-investment studies for the project entitled "Collector and Treatment Plant in the Choluteca River in the Municipality of the Central District".

The amount of the resources is comprised of: US $588,754.10 from the CABEI Technical Cooperation Fund (FONTEC), which will be used for the feasibility studies and final design of the main collector of the Choluteca River; and the second component will be financed by the French Treasury Facility (FASEP) managed by CABEI, for an amount of US $804,129.23 for the feasibility studies and final design of the treatment plant.

According to the executing agency of the project, the National Autonomous Service of Aqueducts and Sewers (SANAA), the works seek to re-establish the service of effective wastewater collection in the Municipality of the Central District, and to treat 100% of the wastewater collected for the 8.8-kilometer area of influence from the Choluteca River collector, in order to eliminate the risk of spilling raw wastewater at 11 locations along the river, which can cause waterborne diseases and, in turn, cause environmental problems against the biotic and anthropogenic environment.

The agreement was signed by the CABEI Manager for Honduras, Manuel Torres, and the Undersecretary of Credit and Public Investment of the Ministry of Finance, Tomás Cálix.

Mr. Manuel Torres expressed his satisfaction in supporting this initiative that will improve the quality of life of the population of the Central District Municipality, by enabling the prevention of health problems in the population and environmental pollution.

In addition, he added that with this action, CABEI reasserts its commitment to the Republic of Honduras, with whom it maintains a portfolio of current operations in the amount of US $1.065 billion focused on different projects in the areas of infrastructure that have contributed directly to the development of the country's road infrastructure through the financing of the primary network of highways such as the Jícaro Galán-Tegucigalpa Highway, the Logistics Corridor, and the Western Corridor, among others.
