US $ 30.0 million loan to the Government of Nicaragua for clean water and sanitation

Managua, 20 November 2014- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Government of Nicaragua signed a US$ 30.0 million loan to finance the “Sustainability Program of Rural Water and Sanitation Sector".

With the joint participation of the World Bank with $30.0 million, the COSUDE with $14.8 million, and the Government, municipalities and communities with $9.4 million, it is estimated that the total cost of the program amounts to $84.2 million.

This program consists in the construction, expansion and rehabilitation of the water and sanitation systems, in the installation of equipment in water supply systems, and improvements in the quality of the water and in solutions for sanitation in rural areas. Support will focus on CABEI's 121 municipalities, located in 15 departments, which have extreme poverty rates range between 13.5% and 67.0%.

This agreement was signed by the Minister of Finance and Public credit, Iván Acosta and by CABEI Nicaragua Director Silvio E. Conrad G. FISE Executive Chairman Julio Cesar Cuadra, the project's executing agency was present at the signing of the agreement.
