Successfull workshop to regional media about economy and development issues

Journalists from Central America analyzed the economic situation and development of the Central American region.

Tegucigalpa July 23rd 2013.- Journalist from Central America attended the workshop "Economy and Development, key concepts for journalists", organized by the Central American Journalists Network for Development (REDCAPD in Spanish), sponsored by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).

This organization that already totals more than a hundred members and three years of existence, works in all the Central America region incorporating journalists of all types of media.

The virtual encounter with the social communicators is the first workshop organized by REDCAPD, composed by Central American journalists that cover regional development related issues and intends to promote the analysis of those issues and raise them to the daily news agenda.

By supporting this initiative CABEI aims to promote the discussion and expand the coverage about issues that affect the development of the Central American societies. At the same time, the journalist network has set itself the goal to support in the process the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals that the region needs to comply by 2015.

In this first workshop the keynote speaker Dr. José Deras from CABEI, Ph.D in Economics, talked about relevant issues for the press, linking economic and development concepts with a practical and contemporary approach, expanding on the new trends of sustainable development 2015-2032, as well as other topics that were of great interest for the journalists present at the event.  

This way CABEI, through the network, contributes knowledge and information to the news agenda setters and their professional growth, which will in turn contribute to a more appropriate journalistic approach on these issues.
