STATEMENT

In relation to the participation of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) in the Hydroelectric Project denominated Agua Zarca, CABEI declares the following:

  • In compliance with its institutional mandate to promote the economic integration and balanced economic and social development of the Central American region, CABEI participates in the financing of the Agua Zarca Hydroelectric Project, as a co-financing bank, together with the Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO), the agent bank.
  • CABEI’s participation in the Agua Zarca Hydroelectric Project, as with in every project that if finances, applies an environmental and social risk evaluation process by carrying out environmental and social due diligence based on the internationally accepted best practices.
  • CABEI together with the FMO and other entities, will be participating in a high level mission that will visit the site of to the Project and hold meetings with neighboring communities as with Honduran governmental authorities.
  • Following these visits, CABEI will analyze and act jointly with the FMO to decide on actions to be taken with regards to the Agua Zarca Hydroelectric Project.
