The Dominican government was interested in replicating the development of the rail network for cargo and passengers between the cities of Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros.

Tegucigalpa, January 19, 2021.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), received the request for technical cooperation to carry out the feasibility studies to determine the viability of the rail network for cargo and passengers from the Ministry of Finance of the Dominican Republic.

Within the framework of his recent visit to the country, the Executive President of CABEI, Dr. Dante Mossi, met with the Minister of Finance, José Manuel Vicente, to learn about the opportunities, operations and programs of CABEI that it is successfully developing throughout the region.

“Regionally, this project joins the initiative in which national works have already been identified in Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala. It seeks to contribute to the socioeconomic and inclusive development of the countries in the area, in addition to promoting solid and close economic cooperation between the parties”, indicated Dr. Mossi.

With this first step, CABEI plans to provide the studies that will determine the viability of a project that, among other benefits, expects to increase the levels of security in transportation, reduce travel times and the transformation to more environmentally sustainable systems.
