CABEI-financed road infrastructure projects benefit more than 2.2 million Nicaraguans
The funds allocated by the multilateral to road programs and projects total US$1.188 billion.
Managua, July 14, 2021.- Promoting the economic and social development of more than 2.2 million Nicaraguans, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) is executing nine road construction, expansion and rehabilitation programs and projects.
CABEI initiatives totaling US$1.188 billion allow for the integration of productive regions, accessibility, and transportation at the local and regional levels. The construction and improvement of more than 996.21 kilometers of highways is currently underway, generating 14,888 direct and indirect jobs in the country.
Regarding the works, CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, stated: "We are certain that each project brings multiple benefits, because by rehabilitating and building highways we are joining efforts to reduce poverty by promoting trade between each municipality and department of the country, saving on transportation operating costs, opening up new tourism options and strengthening and integrating the region's road network.
Mossi highlighted the execution of road infrastructure projects in the first half of the year, such as the improvement of the Muy Muy - Matiguás - Río Blanco Highway, with 96% physical progress; the VI Road Improvement Project, with 70% physical progress; the VII Road Improvement and Rehabilitation Program, with 43% physical progress; and work recently began on the VIII and IX Road Improvement and Expansion Program.
On the other hand, in Nicaragua, with CABEI's support, the execution of the following projects was completed in 2020: Improvement of the El Boquete-Santa Ana Road, Improvement of Rural Roads and Highways with Connection to the Nicaraguan Caribbean, Improvement of the Malacatoya-Victoria de Julio and Malacatoya-El Palo-El Papayal Road Sections, and Improvement of the Nejapa-El Crucero-Diriamba-Jinotepe-Nandaime Road Sections.
With the implementation of these and other programs, CABEI reaffirms its strategic role in the fulfillment of two of its 2020-2024 strategic axes for the benefit of Human Development and Social Inclusion and the Sustainable Competitiveness of Central American countries.
