CABEI finances road infrastructure for Nicaragua communities’ development

Works contribute to social and economic wellbeing of approximately 131,907 people.

Managua, August 07, 2020.- Progress made in implementing rehabilitation projects and road improvements in Nicaragua demonstrates the strengthening of regional integration, promoted by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE).

A clear example of the support it provides to the country is the VI Road Improvement Project program, which involves paving four road sections, for a total of 73.16 kilometers in length, an initiative that allows the integration of fertile and productive regions, as well as accessibility to the departments of León, Estelí and Nueva Segovia.

The scope of the project after two years of implementation are tangible, upon finishing the la Paz Centro - Empalme Puerto Sandino road with 15.48 kilometers, the new infrastructure located in the Department of León, between the municipalities La Paz Centro and Nagarote, improves the living conditions of the population of the surrounding communities, it guarantees the transport of heavy-duty vehicles and individuals, improves the living conditions of the people of the surrounding communities, and guarantees the transport of heavy-duty vehicles and individuals, thus reducing distance and better travel time.

Another road infrastructure project financed in the program that reflects the good implementation, despite the situation of the COVID-19 Pandemic, is the cobblestone of the El Regadío – San Juan de Limay Empalme, Department of Estelí with 29.29 kilometers, which is estimated to end in April 2021.

At the same time, in the Department of Nueva Segovia, work continues on the Las Vueltas - Las Cruces road stretch with 10.78 kilometers and the Jícaro – Murra road of 17.61 kilometers.

CABEI’s total loan for the development of works that benefit 137 communities is US$70,450,000.00 plus a contribution from the Government of Nicaragua of US$1,290,500.00.

The multilateral also supports the improvement and expansion of roads of the VII program, which includes 6 projects, of which access to the city of León and the Kukra Hill – Kukra Hill junction have been enabled, while the bidding process advances for the VIII pre-disbursement program.

Each of these programs are part of the bank's Institutional Strategy 2020-2024 and meets the Productive Infrastructure Strategic Objective.
