Honduras has new and modern multimedia production centers and virtual libraries

The beneficiaries of the new technologies are students, teachers, directors and supervisors of technical and professional education institutions in Honduras.

Tegucigalpa, June 13th 2013.- The Spain's Debt Conversion Program for Honduras, managed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), inaugurated today a virtual library at the National Institution of Education Research, as well as three Multimedia Production Centers located in San Pedro Sula, San Marcos de Ocotepeque and Tela Atlántida.

The initiative carried out by the Technical University of Valencia, Spain, is part of the project "IBERTEL Strengthening of the Education and Professional Training System" that consists on an investment of 34.3 million Lempiras, equivalent to 1.8 million dollars.

Besides setting up the virtual library and the three multimedia production centers, all equipped with the newest technology, teachers and technical personal of the Secretary of Education Secretary received training on the use of these new technologies for education and the use of digital content. Also, a multimedia and bilingual production was created in the areas of Spanish, mathematics, technical English, history of Honduras, technology and other areas of the basic national curricula.

It is estimated that in the mid-term 220,000 students of middle level, as well as teachers, personnel responsible of technical training, continuing training and modernization of administrative management and pedagogy of the Professional Technical Training system would benefit directly from these facilities. Training supported by this project will allow adults and young beneficiaries to have better opportunities of work insertion, working in companies as qualified technicians.

The contribution of the Spain's Debt Conversion Program for Honduras, managed by BCIE, is 34.3 million Lempiras (1.8 million Dollars).

At the inauguration of the project attended the Ambassador of Spain in Honduras, Mr. Luis Belzuz de los Ríos; the Secretary of Education, Marlon Escoto; the Deputy Secretary of Finance of Honduras, Evelyn Bautista; CABEI's Sector and Countries Division Manager, Javier Molina; and Fernando Bataller, Respresentative of the Technical University of Valencia, Spain.
