CABEI participates in the I Meeting of I+D+i Agencies in Argentina

This is an initiative of the National Agency for the Promotion of Research, Technological Development and Innovation (R&D&I) of the Argentine Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Buenos Aires, March 26, 2021.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) participated in the First Meeting of Argentine I+D+i Agencies. During his presentation, CABEI's Director for Argentina and Colombia, Maximiliano Alonso, announced that work will soon begin on the creation of a non-reimbursable fund for Argentina's Network of Innovation Agencies with financing from the Bank.

By developing a regional innovation center, CABEI will work jointly with the Argentine government to strengthen national and Central American science, innovation and technological development policies through knowledge exchange and generation activities.

In this context, CABEI's Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, confirmed that this initiative is part of the Bank's operation in Argentina through the financing of US$50 million for projects and equipment for 1,200 researchers from that partner country.

In addition, 100 doctoral scholarships will be awarded to members of the Central American scientific community to pursue postgraduate studies in Argentina, and 60 scientific projects in the region will be funded in collaboration with Argentine scientists.

In the virtual session, Director Maximiliano Alonso stated: "We are laying the foundations for scientific and technological development with a view to regional integration focused on productivity 4.0, poverty reduction and climate change mitigation" and added that, together with Fernando Peirano, president of the I+D+i Agency, they will start working on a non-reimbursable fund for the Network of Innovation Agencies of Argentina..

The event was attended by representatives of the science and technology portfolios of the country's provinces, the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank and the Latin American Network of Innovation Agencies (RELAI).
