The certification is granted by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), an organization that promotes sustainability in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of sustainable buildings, homes and communities. CABEI was evaluated in the categories of Transportation, a Sustainable Site, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Air Quality, achieving the Gold level with 64 accumulated points.

At the Central American level, a total of 10 projects have obtained LEED O+M certification for V4.1 Existing Buildings and, among the statistics, the CABEI building in El Salvador stands out as the only local project certified under its most updated version, a recognition that was obtained this year and which allows CABEI to reiterate its commitment as the region's Green Bank.

This type of certification brings a series of benefits to the environment that allow reducing the environmental footprint generated from the facilities, some of these are the efficient use of energy and water, the use of fewer resources, the generation of less waste, the use of energy from renewable sources and the contribution to the reduction of carbon emissions, good practices that the building has implemented and works to maintain.

In this way, the bank promotes environmental sustainability from its facilities by adopting international standards in its internal operation, this being a focus of its Environmental and Social Policy through its Corporate Environmental and Social Responsibility System (SASC) with which its Environmental Management System (SGA) has been implemented under the ISO 14001:2015 standard.

This has allowed the Office in El Salvador to achieve several achievements in the 2020-2023 period, such as: generation of 195 megawatts (MW) of clean energy, compensation of 423 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, management of 4.9 tons of waste channeled for recycling, planting of more than 1,300 trees with CABEI volunteers, and training of 154 people on environmental issues.
