With support from CABEI and the Korean Republic, Guatemalan public officials receive training in railroad matters

Guatemala City, September 9, 2021.-  In order to generate knowledge and promote the creation of policies and strategies for the management of the freight railroad sector in Guatemala, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and the Korean Republic carried out the Capacity Building Program for officials, experts and technical staff of  Ferrocarriles de Guatemala (FEGUA) and the Ministry of Public Finance (MINFIN).

The educational content developed was related to the railway experience and lessons learned from the Korean Republic and their implications for Guatemala, economic evaluation of railway projects, including demand estimates for the use of the services, as well as the regulations, norms, and structure of the railway industry in Korea.

"We are very pleased to contribute to the development of operational and technical capacities in Guatemalan institutions and promote the exchange of successful experiences in railway matters at the international level. These types of activities are of utmost importance for the management of public policy and the implementation of this railroad transportation initiative, which will enable the integration and promotion of sustainable competitiveness in Guatemala and the region," commented CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

The activity is part of the "Guatemalan Segment of the Central American Railroad Connection" project financed by the Korean Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) in the amount of US$466,900, as part of the non-reimbursable technical cooperation granted to Guatemala by the Korean Republic, CABEI's extra-regional partner country.

This cooperation will end in October 2021 with the socialization of the results of the project's technical and financial prefeasibility study.
